Well after all the snow and rain it looks that Spring has finally arrived. Temperatures are warming up again this week up near 80 degrees and it looks like the plants are responding and ready for the colorful spring show. Here are a few shrubs and trees that are in bloom.
Tulips
Yellow Tulips in bloom.
Cherry Trees
Spectacular clusters of pink blooms on a Cherry tree. 'Yoshino' and Okame' varieties are good ones to try for the Dallas area.
Purple Leaf Plum Trees
Purple Leaf Plum (Prunus cerasifera) tree showing light pink blooms.
Pear Trees
Clusters of white blooms on a Pear tree in springtime. Preferred varieties are 'Aristocrat', 'Capital' and 'Chanticleer'. Pass on the 'Bradford'.
Redbud Trees
Redbud (Cercis candadensis) trees are budding out in bright pink clusters.
Redbuds have a great pink show in the spring, but look quickly as they don't last long. t
Magnolia Trees
Butterfly Magnolia - A beautiful yellow blooming variety.
Magnolia x soulangeana is a smaller scale Magnolia tree and has pink blooms in the spring.
Forsythia
Forsythia is one of the earlier blooming shrubs but packs a bright punch of yellow color.
Verbena
This perennial Verbena 'Homestead' is already in full summer form with vibrant purple blooms.
Carolina Jessamine
Carolina Jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens) with lovely yellow blooms and is a great climber for fences or railings.
Flowering Quince
Flowering Quince (Chaenomeles sp.) is on the back end of it's spring blooms but a nice addition to the garden.
Bridalwreath Spirea (Spirea prunifia) with some beautiful shite flowers in the spring.
